El Santuario de Chimayo and Friends

El Santuario de Chimayo, Santa Fe, New Mexico

“When I was in the darkest days of my divorce, my two best friends invited me to Santa Fe, New Mexico, where we all had either lived, gone to school, or still do live, to go on a men’s bonding trip.

Interestingly, the first thing the three of us wanted to do was go to the Santuario de Chimayo, a sacred place for all Catholics in New Mexico. These pictures are from that day. The two men are my friends Tom and Ron, with their votive candles, which we all purchased, lit, and prayed with in the chapel.

That was a good day for me, and I had a strong sense of God’s presence in that place and with my friends.”

Submitted by Joe Durepos. Joe recently reflected on his friendship with Tom and Ron at his male spirituality blog, Men on the Journey. Read that reflection here.

  1. ‘When u gather together in my name i will come and give u my presence’. The transforming and healing power of our Lord is seldom recognized even by Catholics

    • How appropriate to bring the Matthew passage to mind! Sometimes it is easier to recognize God’s presence in the company of others.
