You Take Him

Mary and Jesus "You Take Him"

“Unlike most statues depicting Mary cradling baby Jesus in her arms, I was enthralled by how in this one she seems to be thrusting him forward. I titled it ‘You Take Him’ to highlight multiple realities captured by this image: any mother’s relief at being able to hand over a fussy infant; Mary’s unique role in salvation history as Theotokos; and our call to receive Jesus as Lord.”

    • Thank you for stopping by and commenting, Fran. Meredith’s title for the image does say much about our relationship with Jesus and Mary, doesn’t it?

  1. Thankyou very much for such a beautiful title. It makes me want to take Him and hold Him the way St. Anthony of Padua is portrayed.
But most important it inspires me to think this is the way the priest gives Him to me at Holy Communion and Our Lady follows me: where He goes,She goes.
